“# “Daddy, Noah’s Under the Floor… And He Says She’s Coming house!”

“Lily, sweetheart, what are you talking about?”
“He keeps knocking for me! He says he’s scared… and the bad lady is coming back!”
Daniel Carter froze.
His five-year-old daughter stood barefoot in the living room, clutching her missing brother’s blue dinosaur hoodie. Her cheeks were soaked with tears, but what terrified Daniel most was where she was looking.
Straight down.
At the expensive Persian rug beneath his feet.
Across the room, his older sister, Vivian, smiled.
A smile that came a little too quickly.
“Daniel, don’t listen to her,” Vivian said gently. “Children make up stories when they’re frightened. She’s probably just looking for attention.”
But Daniel barely heard her.
His seven-year-old son, Noah, had been missing for six agonizing hours.
Six hours since Daniel and his wife, Elena, had left their children with Vivian while meeting an attorney about their late father’s estate.
Six hours since Noah had mysteriously disappeared from the newly remodeled mansion Vivian had practically begged them to purchase.
The police had searched the neighborhood. Daniel had shouted his son’s name until his voice nearly disappeared. Elena had called every parent, teacher, and family friend she could think of.
Nothing.
Not one clue.
And now their little girl was claiming her brother was beneath the house.
Lily raised a trembling finger toward the floor.
“Daddy, I heard him. Three knocks. Then he scratched. He’s right there.”
Vivian’s smile faded.
“Daniel, you’re only making things worse by encouraging her.”
But something about Lily’s terrified expression made Daniel’s stomach twist.
Three days earlier, Vivian had arrived carrying an enormous red-and-gold Persian rug.
“A housewarming apology,” she’d called it.
Daniel had accepted the expensive gift without questioning her motives.
Now he remembered how strangely insistent she’d been about placing it in this exact spot.
He crouched and grabbed the rug’s heavy corner.
“DON’T TOUCH THAT!”
Vivian’s scream shattered the silence.
Elena whipped around.
“Vivian? Why would you say that?”
For a split second, something unmistakable flashed across Vivian’s face.
Pure terror.
Then she forced a nervous laugh.
“The hardwood floors were just refinished. You’ll scratch them dragging that thing around.”
Daniel slowly straightened.
He studied his sister.
Her platinum-blonde hair was perfectly styled. Her white designer dress looked expensive. Diamonds sparkled around her neck.
Strange, considering she’d spent years insisting she barely had enough money to survive.
Vivian had always considered Daniel the foolish younger brother.
Too emotional.
Too trusting.
The kind of man who signed family documents without reading the fine print.
But she had forgotten something important.
Daniel might have trusted his family blindly.
He would never gamble with his children’s lives.
Without another word, he seized the rug and yanked it aside.
Elena gasped.
The wooden floorboards underneath were noticeably lighter than the surrounding hardwood.
Brand-new.
A narrow seam ran along the wall, almost invisible unless someone knew where to look.
Daniel dropped to one knee.
Something pale protruded from the crack between two boards.
Something impossibly small.
He leaned closer.
His heart nearly stopped.
It was a child’s fingernail.
“OH MY GOD!” Elena screamed.
Vivian stepped forward, her voice trembling.
“That doesn’t prove anything! It could have come from anywhere!”
Daniel pulled out his phone and started recording.
His eyes never left his sister.
“You’re right, Vivian,” he whispered. “Maybe it doesn’t.”
The room fell silent.
Then came a sound that made everyone’s blood run cold.
**Knock.**
**Knock.**
**Knock.**
Lily burst into tears.
“Daddy! That’s Noah!”
Vivian stumbled backward, her face turning ghostly white.
Daniel pressed both palms against the wooden floor.
Suddenly, something underneath began scratching.
Faster.
Harder.
Desperately.
Then a tiny, trembling voice rose through the floorboards.
“Daddy… please don’t leave me.”
Daniel’s eyes filled with tears.
“Noah! Daddy’s here! I’m getting you out!”
But before he could move, his son’s next words made his blood freeze.
“Daddy… she’s coming back.”
And at that exact moment, Daniel heard the unmistakable sound of a key turning in the front door.
